Our goal is to create a great environment for blockchain-based entertainment experiences and games. Part of what makes Dapper for ETH great is that it eliminates the question of gas fees for Dapper experiences. For the last year, we have been covering gas fees for all dapps that implement Dapper, but have always planned to move to a partner model. We are making that move today, so the latest version of Dapper includes an update to the weekly Transaction Passes.
Starting on Thursday, August 20th, we will no longer offer free weekly transactions. Gas abstraction continues to be a tricky issue to solve, and we've decided our approach needs to be adjusted. This change will not affect the free transactions for our games.
We hope these adjustments allow us to continue offering great experiences with the ETH gaming community while providing a tangible benefit to Dapper for ETH games.
What does that mean? If you have been using Dapper for ETH in non-partner experiences, you have had access to free transactions. Now only official Dapper partner dapps will have access to some free transactions. See here for a list of partners: CryptoKitties, Cheeze Wizards, OpenSea, Decentraland, Mega Crypto Polis, Crypt-Oink Racing Friends, My Crypto Heroes, HyperSnakes, Footbattle.
Questions?
Will core CryptoKitties experiences still be covered?
- Yes. The Dapper Pass will still cover core CryptoKitties transactions.
Why are the changes being made now?
- We consistently monitor gas pricing to inform our decisions. This change is one of those circumstances where adjustments were required for us to continue offering a great user experience to the ETH gaming community.
Will the Flow network have these same issues?
- This friction is, in large part, what inspired our team to develop Flow. Flow's core architecture will make these kinds of issues irrelevant. Thanks to our history in the ETH gaming space and the fantastic feedback from our community, the team is designing Flow with these hard-fought learnings in mind. Keep up to date with Flow's development by following us on Twitter or joining our Discord community.
