The latest version of Dapper includes some improvements to our average time to mine, an update to the weekly Transaction Passes, and Dapper's gas limits.
Starting on Thursday, June 4th the free weekly transactions we offer for all dapps will change from 10 to 3. Gas abstraction continues to be a tricky issue to solve and we’ve decided our approach needs to be adjusted. This change will not affect the free transactions for our own and partner games.
High gas cost transactions which exceed Dapper's gas limits will also no longer be supported. We found these types of transactions have the potential to quickly drain our ETH reserves. This causes hung up transactions which adds to the difficulties of an already congested ETH network. We hope these adjustments allow us to continue offering the greater ETH gaming community quick and free transactions sustainably!
Note: Dapper's design optimizes for dapp games. If you plan to primarily interact with defi dapps, it's best to use a wallet service that offers custom control of gas limits.
Questions?
Can I set my own gas limits with Dapper?
- Dapper's design philosophy is to make onboarding to dapp games easy for a mainstream audience. A common piece of feedback we heard was the pain of adjusting gas limits on every transaction taken on a game. Transaction Passes removes the manual work of adjusting limits and instead allows people to focus on playing their favorite dapp games!
Will core CryptoKitties experiences still be covered?
- Yes. CryptoKitties and our partner experiences will still be covered by the Dapper Pass.
Why are the changes being made now?
- We consistently monitor gas pricing to inform our decisions and this is one of those circumstances where adjustments were required in order for us to continue offering free transactions to the ETH gaming community.
Will the Flow network have these same issues?
- This friction is in large part what inspired our team to develop Flow. In fact, Flow's core architecture will make these kinds of issues irrelevant. Thanks to our history in the ETH gaming space, as well as the amazing feedback from our community, the team is designing Flow with these hard-fought learnings in mind.
